President's Message

Welcome and thank you for joining the Texas College of Emergency Physicians! I am always glad to welcome new members to our association.

Since you are new to the Texas College of Emergency Physicians (TCEP), I wanted to make sure you are aware of all the benefits of being a member. In addition to the outstanding state representation, the Annual Meeting, continuing medical education, active committees shaping policy, networking and the newly created website, you’ll find lots of value to your membership right here at home.

Continuing Education – TCEP offers high quality education at the lowest price anywhere. We’ll help you keep you up to date with emergency medicine topics without breaking your budget.

Professional Networking Opportunities – Don’t miss the Annual Meeting, Annual Business Meeting, Committee Meetings or Regional Quarterly Board Meetings. You’ll meet many emergency medicine professionals just like you, all looking to expand or share their realm of knowledge and contacts.

State Level Representation – Learn about the latest regulations, threats and changes to our industry coming from the State Legislature and Congress.

Annual Meeting 2012 Review

The Texas College of Emergency Physicians held its Annual Meeting on April 19-22 at the Westin Riverwalk Hotel in San Antonio, Texas. This year’s Annual Meeting was the largest in attendance with over 360 attendees. The increase in attendance was due to the excellent work and increased marketing by the TCEP Medical Education Committee and the Medical Student Committee. There were over 160 medical students that registered and 59 resident members. In addition the meeting included attendees from the ACEP Board of Directors and candidates for the Board of Directors. These special guests included Drs. Andrew Bern, Vidor Friedman, Hans House, David John, Jay Kaplan, Paul Kivela, Becky Parker and Alex Rosenau.

Registration for the Leadership and Advocacy Conference is now open. Many exciting workshops have been planned and there will be several sessions on chapter leadership, including: Chapter Leadership Orientation, Chapter Officers Forum and the breakfast sessions for large chapters and small/medium chapters. 

Many sessions will be offered regarding advocacy, public policy, public relations and also visits with key legislators on the Hill. Several receptions have been planned including the opening reception and the Congressional Reception on Tuesday evening. This year a maximum of 8.25 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s)TM can be earned at the meeting.

Our featured speakers this year are Dan Morhaim MD, FACEP, Deputy Majority Leader, Maryland Hose of Delegates; John A. Barrasso, MD, US Senator (R-WY); Joseph R. Pitts, US Representative (R-PA); and Marilyn Tavenner, Acting Administrator, Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.

What is TCEP?

The  Texas College of Emergency Physicians is a 501c(6) organization composed of over 1650 emergency physicians in Texas. Our membership includes emergency physicians who practice in a wide variety of settings, including: large and small groups, academic centers, urban and rural, board certified and non-board certified, residents, and medical students. Despite the varied backgrounds they work together for the common goal of furthering the specialty of emergency medicine in Texas.
